Prefabricated Bridge System (formerly known as Inverset), Colrain, MA
The Inverset bridge shown above is located in Colrain, MA. It exemplifies the versatility of modular precast concrete replacement bridges. The deck on stringer arrangement that historically dictated the need for a complicated bearing composed of a sole plate, laminated elastomeric pad and a masonry plate has been replaced with an integrally cast backwall. The backwall rests on neoprene pads. The Inverset also supports a precast concrete, architectural balustrade rail designed to withstand vehicular traffic impact loads. This structure, which was a complete "precast solution," was installed by the Massachusetts Highway Department with its own forces.
