Creek Road over I-295, Bellmawr, NJ
Two concrete girders of the Creek Road Bridge over I-295 in Bellmawr, NJ were irreparably damaged when they were struck by an overheight tractor trailer in May of 2003. Emergency measures were taken to maintain one lane of traffic on the bridge while a replacement span was designed and fabricated. In September of 2003 the damaged span was removed and replaced with new precast concrete Inverset units in two evening closures. The Inverset design provided 24” more clearance under the bridge.

Electrical and telephone conduits were pre-installed at Fort Miller’s precast plant. After the old bridge was removed, precast pedestals were post-tensioned to the abutment and the pier to speed up the erection process. The precast concrete Inverset units were installed in two night operations during which traffic on I-295 was stopped just long enough to erect each unit. The contractor utilized specialized rigging equipment to erect the Inverset units as shown in the photo, left.
