Trunk Highway 62 Precast Repairs Minneapolis, MN


The Minnesota Department of Transportation, Metropolitan District, introduced the Super-Slab® System in Minnesota by including the installation of eighteen 12'-0” x 12'-0” Super-Slabs in a large concrete pavement rehabilitation project on busy Trunk Highway 62 in the City of Minneapolis. The contractor graded the sub-surface and installed all eighteen Super-Slabs in one day and grouted them the following day. The entire highway was diamond ground to achieve the ride quality required by the District.

Precision grading was accomplished with the newly developed, hydraulically controlled Hand Operated Grader. The entire 216' long area was graded in approximately 5 hours and just prior to installation.

Installation was accomplished by occupying the very tight 12' lane and 10' shoulder area while traffic was maintained in the adjacent lane. The crane is positioned on previously placed, un-grouted slabs to provide a linear erection process.
