On this project, Fort Miller provided two large precast concrete water intake manifolds for the Empire State Plaza in Albany, NY. Each manifold was manufactured by Fort Miller in three separate pieces with an individual pick weight of 60 tons (max) and then transported over the road to the Port of Coeymans. At the Port, the contractor, DA Collins Construction Co, Inc., joined the pieces together using UHPC (ultra-high performance concrete) closure pours. The resulting manifolds, each weighing approximately 171 Tons, were then submerged in the Hudson River, fixed to the underside of a barge and floated down the river to the job site in Albany. From there, with the help of underwater divers, the manifolds were installed in their permanent location in the river. This project required significant coordination between several entities including the contractor, Fort Miller, the owner (NYS Office of General Services) and the engineer (HDR, Inc.).
