The first precast concrete bridge deck panels are being installed on the new Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, Kosciuszko Bridge (also known as “The K-Bridge”) over Newtown Creek between the boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens, NY. All (284) main span deck panels on the new bridge are being manufactured by Fort Miller in Easton, NY. The panels are being manufactured utilizing a 9,700-PSI high performance concrete mix and stainless steel reinforcement. The pieces will be delivered to the site on flatbed trailers and be installed by the contractor, a joint venture including Skanska / Kiewit / Ecco III. The project is a design/build project being administered by the owner, New York State Department of Transportation. Photos courtesy of NYSDOT.
