Last Friday, we had the pleasure of participating in the Moles Student Day at the MTA East Side Access Grand Central Terminal project “under” Manhattan. Working with Tutor Perini Corporation from 2016 through 2018, we fabricated over 3,300 structural precast concrete elements for this monumental project. Similar to building a ship in a bottle, the precast beams, groin ribs, smoke exhaust plenums, wall panels, and deck slabs were produced in our Easton, NY facility and delivered to the project piece by piece.
Besides presenting our scope of the precast work to the visiting college students, we had the pleasure of viewing some of our installed precast.
A major focal point of this project are the precast groin ribs. There were (32) groin ribs that were part of the 3,300 precast package. Below are some photos showing the evolution of these groin ribs. From building the complex wood form, to placing the reinforcing, to the mock-up, to delivery and installation.
