Photos of our 86,000-lb precast concrete wall panels and 50,000-lb precast top slabs we fabricated for Kubricky Construction Corp. (Wilton, NY). When fully assembled, (8) wall units and (4) top slab units will make up a single new diffuser. A total of (6) diffusers will be installed in the bottom of the lock chamber, replacing the original cast-in-place diffusers that had become deteriorated over time. These diffusers have millions and millions of gallons of water flowing through them each day and allow the locks to function properly.

Shop drawings were completed by our in-house Engineering Department. Complex steel embeds we used to cast in the concrete were fabricated by our sister company Tymetal Corp. – A Fort Miller Group Company. Fabrication of the precast commenced inside our heated buildings at our Easton, NY facility in early January and was completed in the matter of a few weeks.

These locks are essential to international commerce. Replacing these diffusers quickly and during the winter is a perfect example of how precast concrete can help achieve the impossible. This is how precast builds!
