On Friday August 17, 2018, the Route 8 bridge over Genessee Street was closed to replace the entire deck and driving surface. The New York State Department of Transportation administered this accelerated replacement through a contract with Vector Construction Corporation from Cicero, New York. Fort Miller supplied (14) precast concrete approach slabs and (24) precast bridge deck panels (with integral barrier). All the precast panels fit perfectly and were installed in about a 12-hour period that weekend. The bridge was reopened to traffic on the morning of Wednesday August 22nd.
