This precast, three-sided, rigid frame structure placed on top of cast-in-place walls provides a functional access tunnel between two parking lots near the Amtrak Station in Rensselaer, NY. Plain concrete ends are enhanced with a rustication accent that complements the joint pattern in the adjacent wall.
Precast concrete components are used in concert with lightweight aggregate backfill material to build the approach to the Station on difficult clay foundation soils. The threesided precast structure was chosen because it was cost effective and easy to install.
