Project Overview
The Fort Miller Co., Inc. produced and delivered a 90-ft long x 15-ft wide prefabricated bridge unit (PBU) to Exit 53 of the New York State Thruway (Buffalo, NY). Fabricated in our Greenwich, NY facility, the bridge traveled over 300 miles to its final destination; a bridge ramp over Interstate-90. The existing bridge segment had been heavily damaged a few months earlier. Due to high traffic volumes on the bridge and its vicinity to the mainline Thruway, the removal and replacement had to be completed in a single weekend. Union Concrete and Construction Corporation (UCC) was the general contractor responsible for all activities; including but not limited to closing traffic, removing the 108-ton damaged bridge segment, setting the new 95-ton PBU, and getting traffic open to the public. The bridge was replaced over the course of 44 short hours.
