The Route 9 Broadway Bridge over I-287 in Tarrytown, NY, is a two-span structure with a skew angle of 45°. It was built in three stages while maintaining two lanes of traffic on the bridge at all times. At 120.5’, it is the longest and heaviest Precast Concrete Steel Composite Superstructure built by Fort Miller to date. The heaviest units weighed 127 tons and measured 136’ from end to end. The units were shipped 175 miles using specialized hauling equipment shown below.
The bridge units supported major utility lines. Hollow precast pier units post-tensioned to the underlying rock and filled with concrete, facilitated the three phase project. All of the units were erected at night to minimize disruption to the Thruway traffic.
