Heavy rains and flooding in June of 2006 washed out a significant portion of State Route 23A, a critical highway providing access to the Catskill Park. NYSDOT, Rifenburg Construction, Inc. and The Fort Miller Co., Inc. immediately went to work on a solution and Fort Miller began producing the (835) precast concrete T-WALL® units necessary to rebuild Route 23A. After months of clean-up and lagging wall installation, Rifenburg Construction, Inc. began construction of the T-Wall® retaining wall October 19th and reopened the road on November 11th.
This retaining wall is comprised of (835) smooth faced precast units totaling approximately 11,200 square feet. Note the drainage pipe penetration that was accommodated with a custom precast panel designed to interface with the standard T-WALL® units.
The wall site was difficult and the contractor worked diligently to maintain construction access throughout the project.
