Rt. 46, Overpeck Creek

Owner: New Jersey Department of Transportation

Contractor: Railroad Construction Co., Inc.

Engineer: McCormick Taylor Engineers & Planners

The replacement of Rte. 46 over Overpeck Creek in Ridgefield Park, NJ was the largest Hyperbuild project constructed by the New Jersey Department of Transportation in 2005. This impressive 6-span structure was replaced in approximately four months. The use of (42) prefabricated bridge units atop (86) precast concrete pedestals complimented by a decorative precast concrete parapet made the aggressive schedule possible.

Precast concrete support pedestals were required to make up the difference between the original pile cap and the structural steel beams in the new superstructure.

Using the Hyperbuild method over conventional construction, the NJ Department of Transportation estimated its design/construction time savings to be (48) months with significant cost savings.
