This project includes four precast bridge decks on steel girder structures which replace the existing bridges along a compound curve with very limited space. This highway bridge is a critical juncture for commercial truck traffic and had to remain open during construction. The detail shown was generated by our in-house engineering department to meet the load transfer requirements of two separate bridges which are diverging in elevation. The height differential between bridges varied from 0.5” to 30”, requiring several different details. Additionally, haunches on this bridge varied from 0” to 28.5”. This connection utilized #5 and #6 bar at approximately 2” on center along this compound curve, requiring meticulous planning and precise manufacturing.
