Project Overview

Designed by the New York State Department of Transportation, this bridge spans the entire 150’ width of the Taconic State Parkway in Mahopac, NY, allowing pedestrian and bicycle access from one side of the Parkway to the other as a part of a recreational trail system. The bridge and abutments were clad with granite stone consistent with the typical architectural treatment specified for use on the Taconic State Parkway.

The bridge is comprised of (3) three 50’ segments, each section weighing 113 tons. The precast segments were erected on temporary towers. Closure pours joined the precast segments at third points. The segments were post-tensioned in the longitudinal direction for the entire span, eliminating the need for piers. High Performance Concrete was specified and compressive strengths exceeding 10,000 psi were achieved.
